Things I'd look at:

/etc/resolv.conf  (if you're not running dns, make sure localhost or
127.0.0.1 isn't there)
/etc/hosts (make sure your computer is in there)

Disable "What's related" in Netscape, this is in
preferences/applications/ and click a few buttons. might as well disable
java too..

Delete your .netscape directory, making sure to copy your bookmarks.html
out of there first.
Don't use imap, use pop3.

Are you using Squid to proxy things? is it set up to accept connections
from your machine?
