[CLUG] gaining control

OK, erm...Well I have done the following to 'try' solve me problem...

1)	Installed new instructions strings for the 2940 SCSI controller

2)	Tinked with fstab and the swaps + added another

3)	Read 'TOP' properly this time! and noted the fact that Mr. VMLinuz
only detected 13MB of Main Memory!!!! ack!!!! wtf?
	
4)	I pinkied with Lilo.conf and added MEM=512M and nothing happened...

5)	Recompiled/Updated the Kernel twice :)

6)	Slowed Memory timings to 'less that favourable' in BIOS to
troubleshoot...mais 'ne pais'..

Anyone got any ideas? I am running PII 600 with 512Mb with an ABIT BX6
Rev2.0 board and running out of patience :)

With a bog-standard Install of Redhat 6.0 running default KDE/Gnome config
with a 3.3.5 SVGA driver for a TNT2;

X is crap slow(technical term :-) ). Massive swapping is occuring with any
operation, even right-clicking an icon!!!

I am running it on a SCSI LVD drive and I have buckets of RAM, and so am
confused as to what the problem may be.

I have 4 active SWP partitions of 125MB each and 'top' reports about 16.5MB
of RAM allocated with no signs of any 'wierd' lowlevel process swamping the
processor...
As far as std. console Disk utils, file searches/copying goes, everything is
hunky dorey & quick....

Anyone know of any Adaptec 2940 servers written for Linux and not SCO?
Also, Linux config files/servers for an SBLive! Value?

Any ideas?

If that happens, the easiest thing to do is to boot from floppy (using
something like the RH rescue disk), mount your partition, go in and
edit the passwd file to clear the root password.
