Finally got the Riva TNT working this morning!
I grabbed the glx and Mesa source from CVS and initially compiled as the
FAQ said but that didn't seem to work.
After recompiling with just support for the TNT (disabled the others) it
still din't work, but then I noticed that some of the libraries in
/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL* had timestamps from December so I moved them all
to a backup dir and resintalled them. Restarted X and fired up the gears
demo and it went a lot faster, even in a Window :)
I then installed the Quake 3 demo (CD isn't plugged in so I couldn't
install the commercial release) and that played very nicely. I feel the
lighting is a bit subdued though. AFAIR, it looked better on the 3DFX..
To be honest, it looks like it's using Vertex lighting instead of
lightmap.. A bit more investigation is called from.
If you can't get it working, enable debugging in /etc/X11/glx.conf and
look at /var/log/glx* - that'll tell you if your card is accelerated!
