sorry about that extra html folks..
you can replace the ftp address in donnachs post with http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/README-2.4 for those of you who prefer html for whatever reason.  
hope they fixed nasty incompatibility problems with pppd 2.3.x series
