Yes, it was originally set to slave by accident, plugged into the
motherboard 2nd IDE, which is why it originally went so slow finding it,
and why it was set up as hdd. But I swapped the jumper to master, and
relinked cdrom to hdc...in fact I have now tried all four combinations
and none of them work.
While it boots, something about PIIX flashes past saying something
about "neither IDE" but it's too fast to see. Does all that boot-time
stuff get logged anywhere (and if not, why not :-)
