I was bringing up xsmbclient on a user's RH7 box and couldn't get it
to join the local workgroup (claimed it couldn't find the domain
controller).
In my absence, the user's colleague installed smbd and nmbd (not that
they were needed) and this resulted in xsmbclient starting to work.
However, in the process something has disabled all telnet and ftp
logins. The user's colleague is not contactable, and I'm not at the
machine location. It's possible he installed a firewall of some kind
(suggestions as to where to look welcome: I know where to find
bastille, but none of the others). If not a firewall, what else could
he have done (telnetd and ftpd are still there, with the relevant
entries in /etc/services)?
