[CLUG] journalling file systems on raid systems and plea for help

hi guys, looks like ive secured me a cute little server off yahoo auctions.
It has an adaptec 7880 scsci raid system on board (pci) and 2x1GB and 1x2GB
hard discs.

Q1) i think the 7880 is supported but i dont have a kernel to check through
the modules at the moment cos i got no pc. anyone who could help, be much
    appreciated.

Q2) nearly all the new distros tend to install reiserfs as std nowdays. if im
using raid 0/1 on this system isnt that a bit dodgy with what the
transactions are now both trying to be both optimised twice for each inode

For Richard Stallman fans/haters theres an interview with him in linux format june edition (on sale approx. 23 may)

Begging time: this box is coming with no os, any chance if i give someone a cdr they could burn a distro for me to get me running? any version will do but if i have a choice mandrake 7.2/8.0 Also i seem to remember the raid device will appear generally to linux as dev/m0 or similar, so will i have problems with any distro installing?

when i grow up i'll be stable"
