[CLUG] tape drives

[CLUG] tape drives

do any of you guys (and gals?) use a qic-02 tape drive/controller??

I'm having a wee spot of trouble with one. It seems to work somewhat
(e.g. - I can reqind the tape ok). But if I attempt to do something like
use tar to attempt to back something up to tpqic02 (the kernel module in
charge of all this stuf) gives me the following, somewhat disconcerting
line,

tpqic02: release: device dead!?

The tape drive is an ancient Wangtek 5150 EQ. The controller card is a
wangtek job also (I don't have any model number for it offhand but it
probably doesn't matter anyway given that I think this is probably a
software issue).

well, if anybody can help it would be much appreciated

thanks

bob
