I have a satellite 4080xcdt which runs linux fine. I've never used
the modem though (never tried and don't even know what kind is in it.)
It's running debian potato (with X-3.3.6). I upgraded the bios to get
ACPI support. One problem is that when suspending the notebook, if X
is currently displayed, it won't resume correctly. If I switch to
console with Ctr-Alt-F1 before suspending (i.e. with X still running
in the background) it's fine. I'm sure if I upgraded X or looked into
it further I'd probably resolve it, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Have a look at http://www.buzzard.org.uk/toshiba/ for info and
utilities for toshiba laptops running linux.

Alan.
