This is where Debian shines.
------------------
Amen to that...
------------------
On
the other hand, RH and Mandrake are more up to date and I haven't
had
the inclination to figure out how to update Debian to "unstable".
------------------
If you have (reatively fast) leased line access to ftp.esat.net
then all you need to do is change your APT sources list ( /etc/apt/sources.list
) to point to woody as opposed to potato. It automatically upgrades
everything, certainly with deselect, and prolly with dpkg AFAIK.
Otherwise just download the package listing and download onto
portable media at work or whatever.
------------------
Mandrake and RH have gone some way to solving this, Mandrake
has "urpm",
RH have their network update app. But at least in the case of
Mandrake,
urpmi works nicely enough on local media, but not when you're
trying to
add ftp mirrors.
------------------
Still not that happy with rpm format... tarballs are best, but
debs are cool in terms of packages.

Will be in time for last call tonight.
