[CLUG] new disk and umsdos woes

[CLUG] new disk and umsdos woes

I'm considering buying a new disk today. Where is the cheapest place
in cork to buy hardware.

I had a horrific nightmare with umsdos the other night. When running
umssync all my long filenames were physically renamed, for instance
C:\programfiles is now c:\prog#1.$05. This has caused me serious
problems, as you can imagine. I don't use UMSDOS for my Linux
paritions, but I like to mount my dos partitions as UMSDOS so I can
have all of the nice features of UNIX file operations and types
available on my large shared partitions.

Now i've gone and messed it all up it's time to go ahead and sort the
machine out properly ( long overdue ). I'm thinking of going dual
boot between 2k professional and debian. This shouldn't be much of a
problem. I can leave my mesed up 98 installation on /dev/hda1. Make
a linux boot floppy. Slap 2k onto a partition on the new drive. Boot
on the linux floppy, set up 2k in lilo... and I'm sorted..

can anyone see any problems doing it this way?
