Hi Craig,
Most likely your system has been configured in some form of 'secure'
mode with telnet and ftp disabled. I'd imagine that sshd ( which is a
secure login mechanism ) is enabled on the linux system. In that case
simply installing PuTTY on windows should enable you to make ssh logins.
Alternatively, ensure that inetd, telnetd, rshd and an ftpd are
installed an enable them view your vendors service configuration tool.
If you supply more details about your version of Linux then I can give
more specific help.
