Like Donncha, I've never read a PHP book, but "Professional PHP Programming"
used to come highly recommended on phpbuilder.com when I used to hang around
there, not least because Jesus M. Castagnetto used to hang around there
too -- I learned a lot of what I know from him. It may be a little out of
date now - it won't cover some of the stuff introduced in PHP4 - but it
should still cover the basics admirably.
