There's n problem loading it Dun -'s just that some PS7-specific
features are being ignored by the GIMP.
Specifically PS7 has new drop-shadow and glow effects for text which
were a royal PITA to create before (at least for my equals) and PS7
makes this easy. However the GIMP is ignoring these PS7 specific
features and importing the PSD as a PS6 (from what I can see) version.
The GIMP is not alone in this however, PSP8 also ignores these PS7
extensions but at least throws a message indicating same...

Have you tried saving the files in an earlier version format of PSD? I
remember being able to load those files in GIMP ages ago..
