Went with the solaris port of GNOME 2.0 in the end. Probably better than 
ripping out the entire OS, don't have experiences with sparcs so might fuck 
things up (for one thing you can't boot off floppy with the ultrasparc 5 and 
don't have access to a cd burner). Plus Oracle has a policy of only 
installing RedHat on machines running Linux - which isn't so bad as now I 
get to run Ximian Desktop 2 on my own machine :-)
