I haven't used apt for rpm but I did upgrade 7.2 to 9 (first time
I did an upgrade, previously I always wiped and installed from
scratch). It worked, which I was rather surprised at. The only
problems have been a couple of minor config issues, due to older
config files pre-existing from 7.2 and being used by 9 (eg Apache).
The conventional wisdom that you should *never* upgrade but always
replace may be due for revision.
