[CLUG] Which Broadband offer?

[CLUG] Which Broadband offer?

Peter Flynn peter at silmaril.ie

OK, after a little nudge in the right place eircom finally consider that
my segment of Bishopstown is accessible to a broadband signal, so I can
now sign up -- with someone. Yay.

Eircom are offering a €99 connection with a Cayman Netopia modem
which they claim has both USB and Ethernet ports -- useful because
my gateway/server is a bit old and the USB is an add-on card and
Linux drivers for USB B/b modems are still rare and experimental.
Adding a second Ethernet card wouldn't be a problem though. But
eircom have a 4Gb cap.

UTVip are offering twice the cap and €29.99/month instead of €39.99
(or €45 instead of €54 for the 16Gb cap option). I'm with them at the
moment for dialup, but the service has deteriorated over the last few
months, with their end of the link often going unresponsive for
several minutes at a time. Modem is a Zyxel P630, but for another €50
they will supply an ADSL 4-socket router (Zyxel 645R-A1) which *does*
have an Ethernet socket (as well as doing wireless and a bunch of other
stuff I expect).

What other offers are current, and whose deal is the easiest to connect?

///Peter
