[CLUG] hard drive

[CLUG] hard drive

Get whatever you can afford really. Your BIOS may have trouble seeing a
300GB drive but Linux will more than likely see it fine.
Using a SATA drive from Windows will require installation of
drivers(they'll be included) but Linux supports SATA drives out of the
box (not sure since when - I installed Debian on one for the first time
a few weeks back!)

Not sure what's the brand-de-jour this week. I've had bad experiences
with IBM and Fujitsu[1] drives in the past but they were either part of
a known bad bunch of drives or age. Another IBM drive continues to work
fine.

I wouldn't touch an external drive for storing important data. I'm sure
they're fine for transporting data but I'm too paranoid to consider them
for long term storage!

Donncha.
