Just to throw another spanner in the works - the PEAR License isn't
compatible with the GPL. You bundle PEAR DB with the app (you're not so
it's not problem) but there's still a license violation.
That of course presumes you're going to use the GPL as your license!
I have the same problem with WPMU:

WordPress uses the ezsql library from http://php.justinvincent.com/ and
it's awfully nice and simple :)
