[CLUG] CUPS

[CLUG] CUPS

Following on my pre-xmas rant about the soddingawful CUPS, I just
installed a fresh FC3 and then ran system-config-printer to add a
printer. This is a native PostScript printer attached to an adjacent
machine, running RH7.2 and lpd, which is printing fine from all my
other machines so far. Gave the hostname and queue in the lpr choice,
and clicked on Test. I got the following error window:

I [05/Jan/2005:09:10:59 +0000] Adding start banner page "none" to job 1.
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:00 +0000] Adding end banner page "none" to job 1.
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:00 +0000] Job 1 queued on 'lp' by 'root'.
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:00 +0000] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID

I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:00 +0000] Started filter

I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:00 +0000] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd (PID
2844) for job 1.
E [05/Jan/2005:09:11:02 +0000] PID 2844 stopped with status 1!
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:02 +0000] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to
find out more.
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:02 +0000] Saving printers.conf...
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:07 +0000] Added remote printer "HPLaserJet1300"...
I [05/Jan/2005:09:11:08 +0000] Added remote printer "HPLaserJet2200"...

*This* is why CUPS is a bag of shite. I've given it one of the simplest
possible setups, and it can't handle it.
