In the U.S. the whole idea of Linux trade shows has caught on bigtime
and they're being organised by some of the heavy hitters in that business
and you're then talking about numbers of zeros way past what has been discussed
here. OTOH there were such shows organised in the past in the U.S. by volunteer
groups and I think some still are. I imagine it would be worthwhile to speak to
some of these people about organisational isssues.
