Elm's filter is the most security hole prone piece of crap ever written,
if you know someone uses the filter, mail em with a shit load of address
in the To: field, the filter will sent the mail and sigsegv itself, and so
sendmail well notice the error and not kill the file from the queue and it
keeps going on forever or until someone kills the entry in the queue, 

procmail is so much better .. a bit more difficult to setup but worth it
in the end ..
