i don't think you understand what kenn said.  ping will turn a.foo.ie
into 1.2.3.4, but it won't turn 1.2.3.4 into a.foo.ie.  the other
protocols do make that attempt.  what happens when you do nslookups
on the ip addresses?

    it's only happened since i moved to ireland too...
