I just rang up multichannel to enquire about the phone services they
advertised last night on 2FM.
Seems like they won't be using cable to provide the service but the
normal TE lines so you still have to pay rent on that. You'll get a
small box that you plug into your phone line. When you want to make
calls through Multichannel then leave the box on, but if you plan on
being on for a while (say at the weekend) then take the box off and you
get TE charges of 12p for 15mins. You can cancel their service at any
time, just give them 10 days notice.
Their own local call charges go something like:
peak hours 3.6p a minute
evening 2.3p a minute
weekend 1.36p a minute (or something close.. I didn't hear exactly
correctly)
There isn't a web page available yet with prices.
I asked about cable telephony and was told probably 2-3 years so I
presume the girl on the phone was probably guessing..
Donncha.
