Thanks for the info. I had done most of the stuff except the /etc/conf.modules I
got kinda lost on that. As I said, I compiled everything I needed into the
kernel because of my problems with modules. This means a rather large kernel.
I'd like to compile a new kernel with JUST the bare minimum to boot my system
and the rest in modules. I also plan to compile kernels for my '486. Obviously I
can't do make module_install from my PII to my 486, so I'm still looking for
some good reading on modules so I know how to copy them to other PC's and
configure and install them to work properly. On a related subject, my '486 has
the base Debian system installed, along with the SVGA X-Server for my
X-Terminal. I'm not sure what other junk may be installed, but I'd like to trim
it down to the bare minimum. It has a 212M hard drive, that at the moment is
about 75% full. I was hoping to free up a bit of this space for more storage.
Can anyone recommend things I can delete without crashing the system? Or maybe a
list of the absolute minimum needed to run as a remote X-Terminal?
Thanks again for all the help and info. When can we organise another
install-fest at DCU? I'd love to bring down my PC's and have a few experts help
me sort out a few things. I'm real pleased with the way it is going, but I'm so
close and yet so far!
