TE are still in control of the "local loop" so until that gets sorted
out they'll be the only ones doing ADSL.

At the end of this month the ODTR will be announcing who got the
wireless local loop licences. There are 2 categories - narrow band and
broadband - and about 6 companies are looking for licences. These will
allow Esat (if they get one) to deliver voice and data services to home
over the airwaves. 

It works kinda like cell phones I think in that you have to break
regions into small cells and put a base station in each cell. The narrow
band version will allow speeds of up to 1 Megabit although I think this
depends on the amount of traffic in your cell, how big the cell is and
of course it can be atificially capped by the service provider.

As far as I know wireless local loop is the best hope in the near term
for high speed access, when you consider that TE can't even deliver ISDN
ADSL looks a lonf way away,
