An all-linux cyber cafe would be brilliant (from an admin point of view) -
no viruses, people can't delete stuff, can't install ICQ(spit!) 50 times,
can't install BackOrifice and then go home and try to take over the cafe
(yes people have tried)
but you would also have to make many trade-offs -
People tend to panic(I've seen them) if they can't find a start button,
(you'd be surprised how threatened people can get -bad for buisness)
and they want to do thier CV in M&S Word, but the only copy they have is
in WordPerfect 2.3 format on a Macintosh(spit! - go mark twomney ;o)
formatted disk, and they get all kinds of programs in their emails that
they want to run (we let them here - remember that disk imaging? handy)
and they want to bring in their own software (astrology software among
other things)for whatever - digital camera drivers etc...
And then there's games - big trade-off's there...
It could be done, but it would be quite a restrictive cafe (no, you cant
run that, it's microsoft, no you can't open that, it needs such-and-such
companys 'special' win32 program etc.....sorry - you can go to the cyber
cafe round the corner....etc...
Anyway, it's something I would love, and have considered it many times,
but it's not plauseable(yet).
God - it would be great!!
anyway
