[ILUG] mail server questions

[ILUG] mail server questions

Roy Leonard roy.leonard at trintech.com

Can't help with the priority, but might be able to help with the delay.

Stupid question (I gotta ask it!) Could the mail not be "pushed" from the
main server? This way you can avoid fetchmail and run sendmail on your box?

If the other machine is running sendmail, and the delay is the same each and
every time, you could be running into an indent problem. Sendmail is
sometimes configured to use ident to check the identity of the calling
program. If your machine is not running ident, it will take 30s (timeout
can be changed) before it will allow you in. Check the sendmail.cf file for

"O Timeout.ident="

Cheers,

Roy

Subject: [ILUG] mail server questions

The mail server that it's replacing checks the priority of a message and
if
it's high, sends it immediately. Any ideas how I'd do that with the
above setup?

Other problem: Connecting to the machine is slow (either with a mail
client
or telnet) is slow. from telnet I get:
Trying 192.168.1.4...
Connected to mail1.manganbros.ie.
Escape character is '^]'.

for a while and then a connection.
any ideas?
