Run dselect, and install a different MTA (qmail, exim or sendmail, for
example) - the conflict-detection screen will give you the opportunity
to remove smail.  The configuration scripts for sendmail and exim are
pretty sane; or you could use Donncha's configuration scripts for qmail
and sendmail on the linux.ie site (see http://www.linux.ie/downloads/)
