Hmm, crap. I want to put an adeptec 2940 into an old dell
dimension xps p60 for a short while. Unfortunately the card
doesn't get detected by the ancient dell. I mean that the
actual bios banner that the 2940 throws up doesnt appear.
The adeptec pages reckon that thats because the slot it broken
or a non-busmaster slot. The dell pages tell me that at least
slot 1 is a busmastered slot, or with bios a07 above (ive a08
i think) they all are.

So the damn thing *should* be detected, ive downloaded the latest
bios for the dell and ill give that a try tonight, but i suspect
that ive downloaded the ver thats already installed. Fecking the
card into all the slots and moving pci irqs all over the shop has
failed to work.
Needless to mention that seeing as the card isn't happy in its new
home that the linux install completely fails to see the card, which
worked fine in its old home until it was evicted by a netword card
due to a slot shortage. The optimium solution is to swap the pci graphics
card for an agp card in the original machine and put the scsi back in, I
imagine that noone wants to swap a beautiful perfect 4 meg matrox millenium II
(fastest or near fastest XFree86 card i believe) with just about any agp card
with similiar quantities of memory ?
Thats the last time that i buy a motherboard without at least 50 free slots.
