First there might be a conflict with your mouse and modem so check that. And
I think you should mount your cdrom with [ mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc?
/cdrom ]not hdd but take it out of /etc/fstab and play with it

Subject: [ILUG] Modem and CDROM Problems

>I have two problems to overcome having set up the Caldera OpenLinux and
would be very obliged if you could set me on the right track. I do not have
much notion of the mechanics of computers but the following is information I
picked out in the hope that it may be enough to get me an answer.

the information I have gleaned and hope that it will be sufficient for
someone out there to assist.

>On the BIOS SetUp Utility I see the following :
>Primary IDE Master [Quantum Fireball_TM3200A1]
>Primary IDE Slave [2160 MB]
>Secondary IDE Master [Philips CDD3610 CD-R/RW]
>Secondary IDE Slave [CD-ROM 24X/AKOx]

>On my computer the normal CDROM is on the H drive and the CDROM/R-R/W is on
the G drive.
>>From the boot script I see the following :

>Kernel: Initializing block devices <<<
>Ramdisk driver initialized: 16 ramdisk of 4096k size
>ide ..etc. etc. and then.......
>hda : Quantum Fireball etc.
>hdb: Maxtor 8216od2 etc.
>hdc: no response (status=OxdO),resetting drive
>hdc: Philips CDD3610 CD-R/RW, ATAPI CDROM drive

>
>/dev/hdb2 /ext2 defaults 0 1
>/proc /proc proc proc defaults 0 0
>/dev/hdb1 none swap defaults 0 0
>#
>/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 defaults, nonauto 0 0

>/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro, noauto 0 0

>The second problem is that I cannot connect to the modem. The internal
modem is connected to COM1 - but every time I go through Minicom -c to test
the connection I get the following:
