Which release of MySQL would you recommend?

For everything except the most complicated operations I think MySQL
would be the best solution.

We're using it here to deliver live data (still in development) and it
runs very well.
The permissions are a bit difficult to set up but it's easy enough to
get working.
Just grab my install-webserver script from my homepage ;)

It installs mysql,php and apache by running one script.. *plug over*

Check out the excellent phpmyadmin at http://phpwizard.net/phpMyAdmin/
We're using it on several machines and it's a beautiful interface over
the web to mysql..
