[ILUG] beep!

[ILUG] beep!

Donncha O Caoimh burst across the net:
>Simple and short!
>
>How do I make the console beep from a C program?

putchar(7);

but that assumes a vt100. a truly portable way? curses.

#include <curses.h>

int
main()
{
    initscr();
    beep();
    endwin();
}

cc -o beep beep.c -lcurses

on a redhat system, and possibly others, you need to prepend curs_
to the curses functions for a man page. man curs_beep for instance.

so on unix now you know that the truly elegant way to say things on
terminals is with curses. all those people who say that curses
detract from what you're saying are obviously wrong.
