Kate, and fellow ILUGer's;
Thanks again for the CD's. I've been busy trying my hand at getting various
things to install and work, with varying degrees of success. I got mtv installed
and working, after I found out how to update libraries properly, kewl!!! I have
also installed the pilot-manager to give me at least a back-up of my pilot till
I get the screen fixed. I installed x11amp, but one of the libraries was
updated, which broke apt. This is apparently a known prob with Debian, and the
recommended fix is to upgrade to unstable?!? This, of course, makes me rather
nervous. Also, mozilla quit working after this as well. I want to get set-up on
Oceanfree and get netscape and staroffice installed. Unfortunately, a family
emergency has come up and I'm flying back to the States this weekend for 5
weeks. I was hoping, though, that after this crisis is over, I could just pack
up my PC and bring it down to DCU to let some experts help me get the rest of
the system installed, upgraded and configured the way I want. My wife is beating
me up over how long it has taken so far and I still won't let the rest of the
family use Linux yet. My daughter, however, can't wait for her own Linux Login
and the remote X-term in her room. I'll be back after 25 July, so hopefully
someone will be available to lend a hand.
Cheers,
John Gay
