[ILUG] SAMBA and W98

[ILUG] SAMBA and W98

I have a Linux box which runs Samba and of course it works just fine to
connect the sole Windows PC in this largely Macintosh office. Now I'm trying
to replace this PC by a newer box with W98 (the existing one has W95). However
I cannot get the W98 box to connect to a share on the Linux box - it asks for
a password and it is consistently refused. Ideas, anyone ? My number one idea
is that it is that encrypted password thing. The version of Samba in use is not
current and I'd rather not upgrade it - it ain't broke, so I don't much feel like
fixing it (of course, maybe now it is broke :-( ). Can I twiddle some registry
settings on the 98 box to force it to use unencrypted passwords ?

Kindest regards,
