They do indeedy, and it's actually not too bad. I had the misfortune of
working there at the time they got it in and we all figured that we
wouldn't be able to access the other offices networks when the weather
was bad, but generally it was quite reliable. It a reasonably common
communications medium for companies with more than one building. I
believe it's less expensive than digging up the roads to put in direct
lines, only problem is you need a line of sight.
I was in the Blackrock office and the internet connection for the entire
company was through the Dunlaoghaire office, so any time I was on the
web it was being microwaved to me. It certainly works, but I don't see
the point for home web users. You absolutely need a two way link for
the web. Admittedly you could dial up to send info and take advantage
of the faster download times that way, but that's a very inelegant
solution. What you realy need is your own transmitter in the back
garden, now that would be cool...
