All of which points to very good reasons not to have much of anything
performed automatically by your 'puter - especially when most users
haven't got a clue what it is supposed to be doing in the first place.

As for Word vir(uses)(ii) - best policy is to open any incoming .DOCs in WordPad which doesn't support macros.  The CERT link below provides
a link to a Computer Associates .DOC which is supposed to provide free
tips for preventing macro virus infection.  A bit ironic if that document ever
got infected.  They would be a lot better distributing it in .TXT format.  Ever
heard of a .TXT virus ?  Even .PDF would be good.
