[ILUG] Onstream Tape Backup Drives

[ILUG] Onstream Tape Backup Drives

Niall O Broin nobroin at sced.esoc.esa.de

John Ronan asked

> Anyone using one of these beasties with Linux?

No, nor will anyone be for the moment. Although the devices use SCSI at an
electrical level, they are not SCSI devices - they rely a lot on intelligence
in the driver software - can you spell WinTapeDrive ? Apparently the up and
coming new model (35GB/70GB) will actually be a SCSI tape drive. There is
somebody working on a Linux driver for the current models but I don't know
what's the state of this driver.

Kindest regards,
