[ILUG] LILO problem

[ILUG] LILO problem

Noel Carroll noel_carroll at usa.net

After recompiling my kernel last night my machine stopped booting. When Lilo
comes up, the prompt is

LIL-

and that's as far as it gets. Since it was a case of one eye on the kernel
comp. and one eye on the telly, the problem resuolted from one of two problems
I think;

1. I might have forgotten to run Lilo afterwards or,

2. I copied the System.map from the kernel into /boot. I think its the
second one. I haven't got a rescue disk but I had a limited amount of success
with using the cd-rom Lilo with the boot options root=/dev/hda.

I know I need to add an initrd option too. Will this work or do I need do do
something else? If I use the initrd= option, what is the file I need to
include after the =.

Thanks,
Noel
