from what i've heard s3 chipsets (which i believe is what the savage is)
aren't quite what you'd call well supported in xfree86.
that said, if anybody wants to scream FUD, go right ahead. i have an s3
card, but it's driving a little 14" so that isn't a real test.
i'm getting a diamond v550 tnt 16mb pci card next week; nvidia have a fairly
good reputation for their attitude to linux/xfree86 of late. i've chosen
this card over the savage for this reason, because i reckon crappily written
drivers or dodgy support negates the benefit of that 32mb video memory.
is anybody else totally pissed off with how all the cool new cards are agp
only? grr.
