[ILUG] simle socket programming

[ILUG] simle socket programming

cheers guys,

i've had a look at the tcpdump source...

it uses the libpcap (packet capture library), so it doesn't use any of the
lower level network calls that i'd like to be able to use, although
investigating that library mightn't be a bad idea.

i can put my NIC into promisc mode using 'ifconfig eth0 promisc', but alas
my program still won't pick up any packets other than ones coming in.

i've found a great piece of example code thanks to a suggestion from ken
guest...

http://www.cognite.net/linux/newbie/security/sniffer/linsniffer.c

it uses ioctl, to put the NIC into promisc mode
it should hopefully point me in the right direction

thanks again,
sean coughlan
