I was trying to install Redhat Linux 5.1 and 6.0 on someone's
machine, but both times I started getting errors that Redhat's site
describes as data CRC errors on the UDMA bus.
The messages look something like this, but not exactly; mine lacked the
BadCRC word, for one:
da: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady, SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { BadCRC, DriveStatusError },
LBAsect=6409335,sector=2344676
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady, SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { BadCRC, DriveStatusError },
LBAsect=4070019, sector=5360
hda: disabled DMA
ide0: reset: success
I tried disabling UDMA, but to no avail. At this stage I am without
ideas. Does anyone have any ideas? Sometimes the installer can't even get
the disk formatted.
