Don't use scripts, use pap authentication. There's a util with debian
(don't know if it's available with RedHat or anything else) called
pppconfig which will ask you some very simple questions and set up your
/etc/ppp/peers/nolimits, /etc/chatscripts/nolimits, and add the
appropriate line to etc/ppp/pap-secrets for you.
Then 'pppd call nolimits' is your friend.
