[ILUG] md5 passwords and libc crypt()

fwiw,

a while ago someone asked about using MD5 encrypted passwords with glibc
crypt(). And i've just stumbled on the answer.

You specify md5 by prefixing the salt with $1$. eg crypt( "blurghblahacme",
"$1$salty").
md5 salts can be greater than 2 chars.
