[ILUG] downgrade libc RPM and mysql dying..

We've a RedHat 5.2 x86 box here for development but since a few days ago
MySQL has been refusing connections "Connection lost during query" since
a scheduled reboot on Thursday last. The only thing I can think of was
installing updated RPMs, including libc-5.3.12-28 which is the only one
that could affect MySQL IMO.

Only things talking to mysql are apache/php and a custom C++ program
feeding it data continuously.

Two questions:
Has anyone dowgaded a libc RPM? I don't think I can simple rpm -e libc ;
rpm -Uvh libc*

Does anyone recognise the above MySQL error message?

Donncha
