[ILUG] Pre configured boxes

[ILUG] Pre configured boxes

All,
you can buy a Dell Poweredge (Server), Precision (workstation), or
Optiplex (Desktop) with Redhat 6.0 Pre-installed from Bray. The Server comes
with a PERC II/SC (AMI Megaraid) and the Workstation comes with an array of
onboard Adaptec SCSI controllers (All of which are supported by Linux).
Support on future Dell systems shouldn't be a problem either.

Usual Disclaimers apply (If something goes wrong, I didn't say this).

John.

Dell ships with Adaptec AHA based raid controllers now. Unsupported by linux
unfortunately. AFAIK the older AMI megaraid controllers are no longer
available.

I'm a bit biased obviously, but Linux will install effortlessly onto Compaq
SMARTarray based servers. Driver was written and is maintained by CPQ. Plus
you get a nifty 'ASR' thingy = serial console support. Ie you can remote
boot the server over a modem, watch linux boot and login via ttySx.

regards,

Paul Jakma.
