My advice would be to not use the kernel bttv modules but to use the one
linked from the XawTV page: http://www.in-berlin.de/User/kraxel/xawtv.html
Also the latest XawTV (3.01) seems to do a better job of locking onto the
frequencies.
I have also observed that the mono channels have a short delay before they
kick in.
