yes. i know someone who managed to fry a power cable!

they were installing a heatsink/fan on a K6. The fan had a little connector
for hooking it up to a 12V motherboard fan pinout, and also a big plastic
splitter for hooking up pass-through style off a hdd/cdrom type power
connector.  (just in case the mb doesn't have a connector).

She connected both the little one to the motherboard, and the bigger plastic
one in behind her hdd. The little motherboard power line lost the battle and
went up in flames dripping melted plastic onto the board in the process.

the board still worked. (gigabyte).
