[ILUG] Distro wars - was myths and truths

[ILUG] Distro wars - was myths and truths

Incidentally, Redhat 6 can be installed from CDROM onto a Dell Workstation
610 in just under 6 minutes if all the options for setup are specified with
kickstart (it takes about 5 mins to install the rpm's the rest is config
time).

Doesn't quite break the 5 minute barrier though, . . . .
5.2 did it in under 5 (4:37 on average if memory serves . . .)

Are we talking

a) five minutes elapsed time, power on with CD in drive -> working Linux
system
b) five minutes elapsed time, power on with CD in drive -> start of RPMs
installation
c) five minutes of your time, to partition the disk, answer the mandatory
questions etc.
and not counting the dead time

If it's a) I'd love to know what you're installing it on, b) and I'd say
you're a
quick typist and you have a magical influence on mke2fs execution time, c)
and I'd
say that's a specious kind of counting. I have to install Mandrake today on
a new
little box (KIII 400, 40x CD) so I'll have the stopwatch on.

Kindest regards,
