I'd like to thank everybody who helped me out with suggestions
for solving that lilo problem of mine.
It's solved. Used fdisk to remind me where the root partition is
(hda3!), mounted it to '/f' and then used
dd if=/f/vmlinuz of=/dev/fd0 bs=72k
so that I could log in properly and then ran lilo.
Working like a dream, now that I've gotten out of that nightmare.
